The Council also approved the establishment of three new bank accounts. The accounts will cover the 2026 SPLOST, the 2025 T-SPLOST, and the city’s Events Committee. The new accounts were deemed necessary to receive SPLOST and T-SPLOST checks which have not yet been cashed. Projected receipts for the accounts are $617,000 for SPLOST over the next five years and $528,000 for T-SPLOST, representing the city’s 4% share of the county’s total income from the taxes. T-SPLOST funds are earmarked exclusively for transportation-related services, where SPLOST funds can be utilized for a broader range of purposes, including buildings, public safety, equipment, recreation, public works, vehicles, water and sewer, IT, and sidewalks.
The Events Committee account will be maintained by the city to ensure accountability and will be funded through donations.
