The Cavalier defense quickly turned the lead into a two-score game. Senior Jeffery Ellis intercepted a Raider pass and turned on his speed to return the interception for a 36-yard touchdown and the Cavaliers were leading by a score of 14-0.
Coach Pete Wiggins realized his team was overpowering the Raiders and decided to go to a two-quarterback system. He rotated senior Blake Harrington and sophomore AJ Williams.
Williams went to work as soon as he took to the field and connected with junior wide receiver Kaiden James to increase the Cavalier lead to 20-0 with a 13-yard touchdown pass.
With the offense clicking and the defense scoring a touchdown, it was time for the special teams to step up. On the return kickoff senior Jeremiah Dunn picked up a Redan fumble and raced into the end zone and the Cavaliers were leading by a score of 27-0.
James came through again, and this time it was with an interception that put the Cavalier offense back on the field and the offense rolled to another score. This time, the drive ended with an 8-yard touchdown run by freshman Kaden Lee and the Cavaliers were in control with the score standing at 34-0.
Things didn’t change in the second quarter. Bailey increased the Cavalier lead to 37-0 with a 21-yard field goal and Harrington ended the scoring in the first half with a 2-yard touchdown run and with the extra point the Cavaliers ended the first half with a 44-0 lead.
The younger players got plenty of playing time in the second half, even though the game clock was running. However, Williams scored another touchdown for the Cavaliers to open the fourth quarter and the Cavaliers went on to win by a score of 50-0.
The Cavaliers will be looking for the team’s fourth straight victory Friday night when the Pike County High Pirates come calling.
The Pirates will enter the game with a 3-2 record and are coming off a 35-14 victory over Mt. Zion.
Kickoff time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange.
