The Cavaliers forced the Pirates to punt on their next offensive possession and started another scoring drive from their own 15-yard line. Callaway drove 5-yards in five plays and capped the drive with a 61-yard run by junior Christon Kennedy. With just over seven minutes left to play in the first quarter, the Cavaliers had taken a 14-0 lead.
The Cavalier defense dominated the Pirate offense the entire game and also forced the team to make mistakes. One of those mistakes cost the Pirates a touchdown. The Callaway defense forced a fumble and senior Josiah Garrett picked up the football and raced 19-yards to score with 6:02 left to play in the first quarter. The Cavaliers had a commanding 21-0 lead but the first half scoring was not over.
Kennedy scored his second touchdown of the night on a 20-yard run set up by a long pass by senior quarterback Blake Harrington. With under six minutes left to play in the second quarter the Cavaliers were leading by a score of 28-0.
Harrington’s arm came into play on the next drive. The Cavaliers took over the football on their own 44-yard line after a Pirate punt and began the final scoring drive of the first half. The 56-yard drive was caped by a 34-yard pass from Harrington to senior Jeffery Ellis. With just under a minute left to play in the first half, the game was in the bag for the Cavaliers with the score standing at 35-0 at the end of the first half.
The teams allowed the clock to run in the second half and with a pretty fast third quater, the 35-0 score stood.
However, in the fourth quarter Callaway back up quarterback sophomore AJ Williams put the exclamation point on the Callaway victory with a 4-yard touchdown run with just under five minutes left to play in the game to give the Cavaliers a 42-0 victory.
Tonight (Thursday, Oct. 2), the Cavaliers will host another region opponent when the Westside Seminoles come calling at 7 p.m. at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange.
The Seminoles will enter the game with a 1-5 overall record and were defeated by the Mogan County High Bulldogs last week by a score of 56-14.
It’s homecoming week for the Cavaliers and this year’s King and Queen will be crowned at half time.
This year’s queen contestants include: Rehyonna Bonner, Katiya Camerson, Ale’yah Dunn, Makinley Hester, Meredith Smith and Alberyonna Varner.
This year’s king contestants include: Jeremiah Dunn, Jeffery Ellis, Blake Harrington, Kieron Pope, Jr., Luke Taylor and Jaylen Williams.
Be sure to arrive early for the best seats.
