GHS Patriots Improve to 2-0
The Greenville High Patriots took an early lead and never looked back last Thursday night (Sept. 4) in Columbus and defeated the Hardaway High Hawks by a score of 32-26 in overtime to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Patriots found the end zone twice in the first quarter and took a quick 12-0 lead. The Patriots increased the lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter, but the Hawks returned the favor quickly and scored to cut the Patriot lead to 20-6.

The Greenville High Patriots took an early lead and never looked back last Thursday night (Sept. 4) in Columbus and defeated the Hardaway High Hawks by a score of 32-26 in overtime to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Patriots found the end zone twice in the first quarter and took a quick 12-0 lead. The Patriots increased the lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter, but the Hawks returned the favor quickly and scored to cut the Patriot lead to 20-6.
The Patriots scored again in the third quarter to make the score 26-6 and the Hawks again scored and converted on a two-point play to make the score 26-14.
The Patriots were not able to score in the four quarter, but the Hawks found the end zone twice to tied the score at 26-26 as regulation play came to an end.
In overtime, the Patriot defense denied the Hawks while the Patriot offense wouldn’t be denied and found the end zone to end the game and return home with a 32-26 victory.
This Friday night, the Patriots will travel to Zebulon to play the Pike County High Pirates. The Pirates are 1-2 on the season. The team’s win came against the Crawford County High Eagles in the season opener by a score of 36-20. The Pirates suffered at 28-0 loss at the hands of the Haralson County Rebels and are coming off a 44-0 loss to the Sumter County High Panthers.
Kickoff time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
