Voters in Woodbury went to the polls on December 2nd for the runoff election for mayor, and Dustin Hawkins won a narrow victory over former City Council member Jada Holmes.
Holmes and Hawkins were the top two vote-getters in the November 4th General Election, beating out challenges from incumbent Mayor Ronnie Garrett and former Mayor Tonya Moody. None of the candidates received 50% of the vote plus one, so the runoff was necessary.
Only 304 of the city’s more than 700 registered voters participated in the runoff, and Hawkins took 158 votes, or 52%, to Holmes’ 146, or 48%.
Hawkins, an entrepreneur and a relative newcomer to the Woodbury area, will take office January 1, along with newly elected Council members Kay Williamson, Cathy Harbin, and Kera Summers.
