Pine Mountain Regional Library System (PMRLS) has received $10,000 in grant funding to support early literacy from Upson EMC, through its Operation Roundup initiative.

Hightower Memorial Library in Thomaston, Manchester Public Library, Talbot County Public Library, Butler Public Library and Reynolds Community Library will be receiving Wonderbooks.

Wonderbooks are print books that have a ready-to-play audiobook inside. Users can switch from “reading” mode to “learning” mode, which enhances listener comprehension.

Additionally, all library locations will receive new leveled readers thanks to the grant. Leveled readers are books categorized by difficulty level, and they can be used by children who are developing their reading skills.

“Upson EMC’s Foundation Board is proud to support the library’s mission to inspire learning and foster growth in our community,” said Brooke Parrott, executive administrator of Upson EMC. “This donation is a testament to our commitment to providing access to educational resources that will empower young individuals to explore, discover, and succeed.”

Like other materials from PMRLS, Wonderbooks and leveled readers are fine-free, and they can be checked out for two weeks.

“We’re very excited to offer Wonderbooks and to expand our leveled reader collections,” said Jennifer Annis-Domenech, PMRLS assistant director. “These books are ideal for early learners and their families, and kids will love them. We’re thankful for Upson EMC’s support of our community.”

Anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Georgia is eligible for a free library card. Information on how to get a card is available at pinemtnlibrary.org or at the local library.
