The Manchester High Lady Blue Devil softball team fell prey to the Brookstone Lady Cougars last week but rebounded to rout the Kendrick High Lady Cherokees and are now 2-11 on the season.
Brookstone 15 – MHS 2
On Tuesday, Sept. 2 the Lady Blue Devils hosted the Brookstone Lady Cougars and were defeated by a score of 15-2.
The Lady Cougars drew first blood and score three runs in the top of the first inning. The Lady Blue Devils battled back in the bottom of the inning pushing a runner across the plate to cut the Brookstone lead to 3-1.
The Lady Cougars added a run in the top of the second inning, three in the third and eight in the fourth to take a 15-1 lead.
The Lady Blue Devils managed to score a run in the bottom of the fourth but the game ended on the 10-run rule with Brookstone taking a 15-2 victory.
Junior Izabella Aguilar pitched three and two-thirds innings for the Lady Blue Devils, faced 31 batters, allowed 14 runs (five earned) off 12 hits, issued two walks and recorded a strikeout. Freshman Jamaria Sheffield pitched a third of an inning, faced five batters, allowed one run off two hits and issued one walk.
Brookstone pitchers held Lady Devil batters to only three hits in the game. Sheffield was 1 for 1 at the plate with a home run and a RBI; freshman Ca’Monee Mitchell was 1 for 2 with a triple and run scored and junior Tatianna Bartholomew was 1 for 1.

The Lady Blue Devils didn’t waste any time taking care of the visiting Kendrick High Lady Cherokees on Thursday, Sept. 4 rolling to a 20-0 victory and ending the game in 2 and a third innings.
The Lady Devils scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning and added seven runs in the bottom of the second and held the Lady Cherokees scoreless for three innings.
Freshman Jamaria Sheffield earned the pitching win. Sheffield tossed three innings, face 12 batters, did not allow a hit or run, issued four walks and recorded six strikeouts.
The Lady Devils banged out 11 hits in the game. Sheffield was 1 for 3 with a double, scored a run and a RBI; sophomore Alexis Parham was 1 for 1 with a run scored, a RBI and had a stolen base; freshman Ca’Monee Mitchell scored two runs and had a stolen base; sophomore Ajah Ellison was 1 for 1 at the plate, with a runs scored, a RBI and a stolen base; freshman Quaniyah Bunkley was 1 for 1 with two runs scored and a RBI; junior Tatianna Bartholomew was 3 fo3 with a home run, scored a runs and had four RBIs; junior Destiny Busby was 1 for 1 with a run scored, a RBI and a stolen base; senior Maddie McInvale was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and a RBI; sophomore Layla Kidd was 1 for 1 with two runs scored, a RBI and two stolen bases; sophomore Bailey Nielsen was 1 for 2 with a double and run score; freshman Armonie Copper, junior Addison Painter and freshman Arabella Norman all scored a run each.

Up Next for Manchester
On Tuesday, Sept. 16 the Lady Devils will host the Mt. Zion Lady Eagles in a region game at 5:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Sept 18 the team will travel to Mt. Zion to play the Lady Eagles at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, the team will host the Trion Lady Bulldogs in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 noon and game two is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
