Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith announced the addition of a new K9 officer to the Sheriff’s Office as part of the department’s K9 program.
Sheriff Smith made the announcement on Thursday, Apr. 24.
“K9 Ego is now on patrol in Meriwether County,” Sheriff Smith said.
““Recently, Sergeant Kyle Bradford attended and completed a six-week K9 certification course through AK91 in Carrsville, Virginia.
“During this training Sgt. Bradford obtained K9 “Ego,” which is a 15-month-old Malinois mix who is certified in narcotic detection, tracking, article detection and apprehension.
“Having a K9 trained in article detection will be of added benefit to our department, as we have had to reach out to other agencies for that capability.
“Sgt. Bradford is a United States Army Veteran, and he was able to utilize the GI Bill to attend this training and obtain K9 “Ego”.
“Meriwether County was able to benefit in the amount of approximately $21,000 for the K9 and training obtained through the GI Bill.
“Sergent Bradford and K9 “Ego” have already taken illegal narcotics off our streets since his return from the training.
“We welcome this new addition to our agency, and we believe that our community will benefit greatly.”
