MHS Blue Devils Unbeaten; Lady Angels 1-1

The Manchester High Blue Devil basketball team is boasting a perfect 3-0 record and the Lady Angels are 1-1 on the season after last week’s action.

GHS Netters Have Busy Week

The Greenville High Lady Patriots and Patriots increased their playing load this past week as they hosted games against local and region rivals and had a road game against a region foe. The Lady Patriots ended their week this past Saturday (December 13) with a victory over their county and region rival Manchester Lady Angels. The game started slow for the Lady Patriots as they were coming off a game the night before. Both teams battled evenly and neither team could muster a big lead. Finally, in the last quarter, the Lady Patriots took control of the game and came away with a 41-33 victory, their closest margin of victory all season.

CHS Cavaliers End Season at Thompson

Turnovers and mishaps helped bring the Callaway Cavalier football season to and end in the second round of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class AA state playoffs in Thompson on Friday, Nov. 21 by a score of 28-19. The Cavaliers had three fumbles, an interception and three bad snaps and all of those ended potential scoring drives. It was that kind of night for the Cavaliers as the team drew first blood but couldn’t hold onto the lead. Lady Luck frowned on Callaway on the team’s opening drive. Senior Jeremiah Dunn took the opening kickoff at the Callaway 15-yard line and returned it to the 36-yard line to start the game.

CHS Cavaliers Advance in State Playoffs

The Callaway High Cavalier football team kept its hopes for a state championship run alive last Friday night by defeating the Franklin County High Lions by a score of 25-15 in the first round of the Georgia High School Association Class AA state tournament. The team will travel to Thomson this Friday night to play the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated the Jackson Red Devils by a score of 14-7 to advance. Read the preview for the game.

MHS Travels to Wheeler Friday

The Manchester High Blue Devil football team (4-5) will travel to Alamo this Friday night to play the Wheeler County High Bulldogs (9-0) this Friday night. The Blue Devils enter the state playoffs after gaining some momentum winning two games in a row to end regular season play. Manchester defeated the Greenville High Patriots in the final regular season game by a score of 55-8. The Bulldogs defeated Truetlen, its last opponent, by a score of 58-14 and won the Region 4 championship. The Bulldogs have a high-powered offense that has scored an average of 37.8 points per game this season. The team’s defense has allowed opponents to score 15.6 points per game this season.

Manchester Falls to Rival Bowdon

The Manchester High Blue Devil football team fell to 0-2 in Region 7 play after falling to the Bowdon High Red Devils by a score of 49-13 in Manchester on Friday, Oct. 3. Penalties, miscues and turnovers by the Blue Devils played a major role in the Bowdon victory. The Blue Devils had two interceptions, a fumble, a blocked extra point attempt and punt.

Callaway Cavaliers Trounce Pike County

The Callaway High Cavalier football team opened region play with a 42-0 victory over the Pike County High Pirates last Friday night (Sept. 26). The victory improves the team’s overall record to 4-2. The Cavaliers scored fast and often in the game to take a 35-0 half time lead. Senior Jeremiah Dunn got the scoring started for Callaway with a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown with 10:37 left to play in the first quarter to give the Cavaliers an early 7-0 lead. The Cavaliers forced the Pirates to punt on their next offensive possession and started another scoring drive from their own 15-yard line. Callaway drove 5-yards in five plays and capped the drive with a 61-yard run by junior Christon Kennedy. With just over seven minutes left to play in the first quarter, the Cavaliers had taken a 14-0 lead.

Last Second Touchdown Defeats MHS

The Manchester High Blue Devil football team was on the losing end of the team’s first region game after falling to the Trion High Bulldogs on the road on Friday, Sept. 26 in a heartbreaking 32-24 loss. The Bulldogs won the game with only a few seconds remaining on the game clock. The Bulldogs drew first blood in the game with the first of several big plays for touchdowns. The Bulldogs found the end zone with 1:37 left to play in the first quarter on a 36-yard pass to take a 7-0 lead.

Cross Keys No Match for FRA

The Flint River Academy (FRA) Wildcats crushed the visiting Cross Keys Phoenix team Friday night in Woodbury rolling to a 48-0 homecoming victory. The Wildcats scored quick and often. Senior Ethan Newman, who was also crowned Homecoming King, had a big night scoring three touchdowns. Senior Brody Arnold got the scoring started for the Wildcats on defense. Arnold picked off a Phoenix pass at the 23-yard line of Cross Keys and raced into the end zone to give the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead.

MHS Lady Blue Devils Fall in Five Games

Games have been tough lately for the Manchester High Lady Blue Devils and the team lost five games recently. Mt. Zion 13 - MHS 2 The Lady Blue Devils hosted the Mt. Zion Lady Eagles on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and were defeated by a score of 13-2. Mt. Zion led by a score of 8-0 after scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, two in the second and one in the third before the Lady Blue Devils cut into the lead. In the bottom of the third inning Manchester pushed two runners across the plate to cut the Lady Eagle’s lead to 8-2. However, the Lady Eagles scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning and held the Lady Blue Devils scoreless in the bottom of the inning to take a 13-2 victory.
