Callaway Cavaliers Overpower Redan

The Callaway High Cavalier football team earned its third straight victory on Thursday, Sept. 18 at Callaway Stadium overpowering the Redan Raiders by a score of 50-0. The Cavaliers improved to 3-2 on the season with the win. The Cavaliers jumped out to a really quick start and ended the first quarter with a 34-0 lead. The Cavaliers scored on the team’s first offensive possession and capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run by junior Christon Kennedy and with the extra point the Cavaliers took a quick 7-0 lead. Junior Jayden Bailey and Mia Flores shared extra point duties on the night. The Callaway program made history with Flores scoring on three extra points attempts and she is the first female in the history of the program to score on an extra point attempt.

MHS Powers Past Chapel Hill, 47-13

The Manchester High Blue Devils rolled to a 47-13 victory over the visiting Chapel Hill Panthers last Friday night at Memorial Stadium. It didn’t take long for the Blue Devils to score in the game. The defense forced a Panther punt and took over the football on their own 1-yard line. Senior quarterback Dre Mcghee gave the Blue Devils an early lead using his speed to out run the Panther defense and capped a 99-yard drive with an 86-yard touchdown. Manchester couldn’t convert on the extra point attempt, but with just over six minutes left to play in the first quarter, had taken a 6-0 lead. The remainder of the first quarter was a defensive battle but the Blue Devil special team play gave Manchester an opportunity to increase the lead in the second quarter.

Spencer Cools Down MHS Devils

After taking a 7-0 lead over the Spencer High Greenwave on the road in Columbus on Thursday, Sept. 11, the Manchester High Blue Devils were eventually upended by a score of 29-7. The Blue Devils got off to a great start scoring on the first possession. After forcing the Greenwave to punt on their first possession, Manchester took over the football at their own 17-yard line. The Blue Devils did what they are known for and played hard smash mouth running football using the running abilities of senior Brontae Jones, senior Darrius Favors, sophomore Kartavis Gamble and Ja’Cori Anthony to drive all the way to the Greenwave 8-yard line.

GHS Patriots Win Home Opener

The Greenville High Patriots (3-1, 0-0) hosted their first home game of the season and found the winning column again as they bested the visiting Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagles, 32-20. The Patriots received the opening kickoff and put the ball into play at their own 30-yard line. After a penalty moved them back to the 20, Marquel Deering took the handoff and broke through the line for a quick 22 yard pick up to give the Patriots a first down on their 42-yard line. After a couple of pass attempts and a sack, the Patriots was facing a second and long and drew a penalty on the Eagles and moved the ball into their end of the field. However, the drive stalled and Greenville turned the ball over on downs just outside the 10-yard line.

MHS Lady Devils Scalp Cherokees

The Manchester High Lady Blue Devil softball team fell prey to the Brookstone Lady Cougars last week but rebounded to rout the Kendrick High Lady Cherokees and are now 2-11 on the season.

MHS Blue Devils Get First Win of Season

The Manchester High Blue Devils earned the first victory of the season Friday night by defeating the Macon County High Bulldogs in a shoot -out by a score of 47-46. The Bulldogs got the scoring started quickly by returning the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. Macon County attempted a two-point conversion but the Blue Devil defense held and the Bulldogs had a slim 6-0 lead. Disaster struck for the Blue Devils on the return kick after starting a drive that was going well, a fumble recovered by the Bulldogs ended the drive and Macon County took over the football on the Manchester 41-yard line and found the end zone with 9:27 left to play in the first quarter. This time, the Bulldogs converted on a two-point play to take a 14-0 lead, but the Blue Devils came firing back.

GHS Patriots Improve to 2-0

The Greenville High Patriots took an early lead and never looked back last Thursday night (Sept. 4) in Columbus and defeated the Hardaway High Hawks by a score of 32-26 in overtime to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Patriots found the end zone twice in the first quarter and took a quick 12-0 lead. The Patriots increased the lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter, but the Hawks returned the favor quickly and scored to cut the Patriot lead to 20-6.

FRA Lady Wildcats Take Three in a Row

The Flint River Academy (FRA) Lady Wildcats earned three victories last week to improve to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in region play after defeatings Westwood and taking both games of a doubleheader against Deerfield-Windsor. FRA 14 - Westwood 9 The Lady Wildcats traveled to Camilla on Tuesday, Aug. 26 to play the Westwood Lady Wildcats and returned home with a 14-9 victory with sophomore Rhyan Banks having a perfect day at the plate. FRA scored three runs in the top of the first inning, three in the second and three in the third to take a 9-0 lead. Westwood finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the third and added five in the bottom of the fourth to cut the FRA lead to 9-6. FRA increased the lead to 11-6 with two runs in the top of the fifth and Westwood scored two in the bottom of the inning to make the score 11-8.

Callaway Falls to Opelika in OT

The Callaway High Cavalier football team attempted a two point conversion in overtime that would have won the game against the Opelika High Bulldogs last week, but the attempt was short and the Bulldogs returned home with a 36-35 victory. This year’s game was no different that any other contest between the two teams. It was very physical and close throughout the game.
